Did the guy at best buy tell you what to do about it?
Did it work when you verified and hooked it up right?
Bad speaker?
Loose connection?
When Crimping:
Crimping involves the use of a butt connector pressed onto the ends of two wires creating a splice. Use the right size butt connector for the guage wire you are using...they are usually color coded and I usually use the red ones for stock speaker wire.
The crimp tool in the kit will be color coded too and will tell you which part of the jaws to use for each connector. Those metal peices are the metal tubes found inside the butt connectors, this is what you will press together on the ends to crimp the wires.
You strip back the wires the appropriate length and insert them into the opposite ends of the connector, then using the crimp tool to press the ends around the wires.
TIPS:
I could not find a good pic of a properly crimped connector very quickly, but that one is close to what you want to see.
Be sure you crimp the metal part of the connector and not the plastic sheathing, this will do you no good and will require the use of a new butt connector.
Be sure you strip the wires the right length: Too long will have bare wire outside the insulation, and too short will give a bad connection and possibly not connect at all. Measure twice, cut/strip once.
Dont crush the connector: squeeze untill the connector seats into itself but dont go too far or it will ruin it, then you have to cut the ends ans start over.
If you crimp them just make sure after you squeeze the connector that the wires dont move around in the connector, then wrap it up with some electrical tape to keep the grime and mild water out.
Hope this helps you out, I can explain the soldering to you if you want to do it that way, send me a PM.
Since I'm not at home where I can take pictures myself, I found them on the net:
