I recently purchased a new rear bumper for my 2002 and now have to paint it and am not sure where to start. I have alot of body work expirience and have painted my old 91 and my 95 Contour a few times but I havn't started from scratch with plastic like i am now. How do you prep a plastic bumper? Is it as easy as sanding it throughly? Next, I don't have access to a spray gun or the money to buy one so I am getting the aresol can (12 oz) and a aresol clearcoat can. I already have a automotive primer from a auto store. I am only painting the top corners of it since the rest is the trim color so I don't need a whole lot and it dosn't have to look perfect since its not a whole lot of area but I still want it to look nice. So will the aersol can work for this and how do I prep plastic (I have done metal but not plastic)? Thanks!

BTW, here is a link to the website I'm buying the paint from if it helps. If you guys know a better place, let me know!

you dont need to prime.

A simple scuff and shoot. Just make sure your paint has flex agent in it to prevent cracking and falking.

sweet, thanks for the info!!

one more quick question- I called the store and they claim that I need some kind of prep spray stuff, adhesion promoter (basically primer modified for all surfaces other than metal), base and clear. I was going to go with all but the prep stuff, cause it dosn't sound like it makes that much of a difference, do you guys know if it is that necessary or if they are just trying to sell it? He also recommended sanding with 500-1000 grit sand paper, which i will do first.
