I have a 94 EX. with the A4LD tranny.
The door tag says that it has 3.27 gears, I have stock size tires and my RPMs are 2800 at 65mph. I do not have any reason to believe the gears have been changed. I beleive all the gears shift correctly.

I suspect the the TC is not locking up. I took it to a tranny shop and they say it is by hooking up a reader and test driving it. Which really only tells me is that the computer is sending a signal. Could be wrong though. Anyway, getting some info. from another sight, I verified there is a electrical connection towards the front of the tranny in a veritcal position with 3 wires going to it. A red, a purple/yellow stripe and a orange with a white stripe. From what I understand, this is the 3-4 solinoid and the TC lockup solinoid.
Which wire is which and and is this a good place to check for TC lockup?
What voltages should I expect?
I want to check for the signal as close to the tranny as possible.

Any other suggestions a tranny stupid person may try?

Do you have a wiring diagram? That will tell you which wire is which.
As for what voltages to expect, I know I've detailed procedures for testing these circuits several times before. Basically, put a voltmeter across the solenoid (so that you're measuring the voltage drop across the solenoid. You should be able to see the voltage drop switch from 0 V to 12 V as the computer opens and closes the switch. In some ways, this is easier to see from the output state test, where you have control over the switch (see my notes on pulling EEC-IV codes thread). I can't remember off hand which state refers to "on" and which state is "off", but a simple road test should clarify that.
