Hi all! Yesterday I rear ended someone in my '98 Explorer XLT. She was pristine up until this point. It was a light hit (10mph or so) so I can fix it myself. I noticed that there's a piece of bodywork between the chromed plastic grille and the actual chrome bumper. It's made of fiberglass, and it's painted to match the body color. Does anyone know what that part is called? Is it available aftermarket/new, or am I stuck going through junkyards? Thanks guys, I just want to get my baby back to new.

I believe part is called a header panel. I just replaced mine. The stock piece is fiberglass but you can also find them made out of plastic. Look on ebay thats where I got mine, not very expensive or hard to install- my truck is black and I didn't even need to paint it ( I bought the plastic one, it was a little cheaper).

Yes, that's it! It's a lot bigger than I thought. I thought it was just a trim piece---I didn't know it was that extensive. Any problems with the plastic part opposed to the OEM fiberglass?

there is no difference. Th eonly job of the header is to hold the grill on and the headlights in place.
