I recently purchased an Sirius Audiovox PNP2 for my '04 XLS, and I was wondering if anyone else had self installed Sirius in their Explorer. I was wondering how hard it is to run the Antenna thru the vehicle and how you did it. If anyone has pictures I would love to see them.

I do have Sirius in my Ex...but I took it to the shop that installed my indash...5.1...etc. as there are a TON of wires in my truck now...and I didn't want to have to deal with it. I paid the professionals $35/hour...

is this a dealer kit cause i install them all the time and can answer our questions if it is, the one im talking about has a harness that has connectors that splice inbetween the radio and harness, an antenna and 2 black boxes and a 20' long harness. its the best kit out there if you have a sirius compatable radio(factory) cause there is no FM modulation or tape adaptor, you get pure sat. signal

I run the antennas from the outside into the vehicle (just easier in my experience) stick the antenna right above the windshield, run the wire under the loose rubber gasket for the windshield down towards the door (either driver or passenger, whichever you choose) there is a body seem where the a pillar (on outside of vehicle still) meets the front quarter panel you can run the wire through that seem and into the door jam. The door jam can get a little tricky because you need to run the wire in such a way that it won't get pinched. I do this by taking 3M adhesive tape and taping the wire flat agains the metal totally covering the wire so it is protected from flapping around and getting pinched. I then pull up the door gasket and run it under that and into the dash, route accordingly to unit. Be very careful about routing the antenna wire, it is very thin and not very tough avoid using metal pick tools, try and use plastic tools when routing (especially around the windshield gasket) When first installing Satellite radio I wrecked a few antennas before I got a feel for how fragile the wires really are.

Take the Audiovox back to your retailer if your head unit is satellite ready. The audio quality is really poor when not directly connected to the head unit. An FM modulator adds $$ but not much quality. I just completed the install in my 04 Explorer using the ideal receiver from Visteon (that is meant to go with the stock head unit). Send me a note if you have questions.

this is what im talking about, it is 10 times better and i think it runs around 250, also like super edge said run the antenna nder the windsheild gasket and to the fender but i usually cut a hole in the door boot(where the speakerwires are) and run it in , you can get to the wire by pulling up the sill plate and remove the kick panel.

If your stock CD player has a changer port, get a connector that converts the CD changer 12-pin connection into an AUX input and you'll be set. FM modulating is horrible.

That is exactly what I tell people to do. If your deck has any type of auxilary input there are adapters abailable to change it to RCA inputs. So you can have the digital quality of satellite radio, but the option to take it from your car into your house and anywhere you want. You're paying a monthly fee anyways, why ONLY have it in your car?
