My partner at work and I argued for an hour today over this..

1. Did Ford ever put a 3.8l v6 in an explorer?

1.(a) if they did was available in 93's

2. Did Ford use a distributor on a "3.8" in an explorer?

I told him the only v6's in explorers were 4.0's OHV & SOHC.
I though all v6 explorer's had a DIS igniton sytem.

Who's right?

Dan

As far as I know, the 3.8 was never in the X. The Explorer V6s never had a distributor, either. And I think all newer iterations of the 3.8 were DIS also.

3.8 was in the windstars and thunerbirds,I have owned a explorer for over 5 years and never heard of them using that motor.Dan I would go with you and say you are right, just my nickels worth.Later Brad in Iowa

Ford has never offered a 3.8l in an explorer.

Ford never put the 3.8L in the Explorer. The 4.0L OHV was the first and only engine offered until '96. In '96 Ford offered an optional 5.0L V8. In '97 Ford added the 4.0L SOHC to the lineup. In 2001 Ford dropped the 4.0L OHV. In 2002 Ford dropped the 5.0L and introduced the 4.6L V8. Never a 3.8L.

HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One more thing.
I have seen an 91 Explorer with a 2.3L 4 banger in it.

Why? who knows.
Was it factory? Yes.

Weird hua?

almost as weird as a Bronco II PLus (ever seen one of these extremely rare baby's???)

Ford did some weird stuff.
I have also seen a 90 BII with a 4.0L from the factory.
I have seen 89 BII's with D35 and 8.8 axles behind a 2.9L.
Some BII's had captains chairs in the back (like the buckets up front)

However I have never heard of a 3.8L V6 in an Explorer, that would be a new one. So would a diesel Explorer.....

thanks guys!

I do remember a couple of years ago someone on this board shoe-horned a 3.8sc from a t-bird in an X but I was sure ford never put one in

My partner said he fixed a miss in his friends X by changing the distributor cap and rotor. then goes to say he had the same problem in his t-bird 3.8. I told him no " No ya didn't" . I'll chalk up another win in another of our daily debates.

Yes I have seen one and they are very wierd looking. I see it quite frequently.

I also have never heard of that engine ever being in an explorer.

OHV and SOHC... doesn't anyone have an EFI?

Oh man tell me more about this. What exactly is a bronco II plus? I would kill to have a bronco II with the 4 liter and 35 and 8.8.

A bronco II plus is like raised roof van version of the Bronco II. It is also extened about a foot at the rear. Same wheelbase, just longer and taller.

My neighbor has a Bronco II plus and I have seen a 4.0 BII. Dont know about the axles though
