OK, I have tried reading everything on this website but I am still unsure about how to bypass the factory amp in my 97 X. I did this in a 93 X, as I was lucky enough to find the bypass harness in an Autozone. They don't have them anymore. I know I can get one from Crutchfield, but I am not even sure if this is still what I need in a 97 with premium sound and the HU that has CD changer controls (no CD changer in my car). I can get the basic wiring adapter at Walmart, but I want to be sure about the amp bypass situation before I rip the quarter panel apart. Anybody know what is under there for sure? And anybody have a bypass adapter they want to sell cheap? Thanks!

I just wired a new deck into my 97 explorer. If you pull back the kick panel on the passenger side where the computer used to be on older explorers, you will see two connectors there. They are closest to you. One is black and the other is grey. Anyway, these are where your speakers hook up. You don't need any kind of amp bypass. Just hook up your speaker leads at this harness. I just pulled out the pins out of their connectors and soldered speaker wire to them.

Hope this helps and saves a little money for you guys.

Hoppy
