Hi, my name is Bob, I have a 1998 Explorer V6 SOHC.
The check engine lite is on . I hace changed the Spark plugs and the wires, Air filter etc...I have a horriable time getting it to start . Once it does it runs fine?
It was having the starting problem before I did anything to it.....
Any ideas as to what to check?....
I don't where to find what code that the check engine lite may be talking about? I have heard about a code reader? If I rented one could someone tell me where I attach it to ? I am sorry I really do know a little a bout cars but most of my knowledge is based on 50 and 60's model cars.....when I had a little more money I would have just taken it in but.....I just cannot afford to anymore.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.....
thank you , Bob

Parts stores like Autozone would be more than happy to read the code for free, however write down the number of the code. Occasionally they misdiagnose exactly what that code means.

Could u tell me how I find the code?

Hi, Thanks for the info.
Could u tell me how to find the code?
I had a Honda once and they had a visual point under the passenger carpet
that u could read a code . I don't where to read the code or if I have to rent a code reader where to I attach it at?....
Thanks, Bob

The parts store would know where it plugs in.
Theres a port/plug on the drivers side under the dash. When they plug it in, it may take a little bit for it to download the codes. The computer they plug in will display the numbers.
You don't need to rent the code reader because most parts stores will read them for you. Then they want to sell you the parts.
