I have thought about the injector. What is the best way to check these. My problem happens after driving so I am never at my house with my tools when this happens.

Hey Turdle or anyone else, tried the turn key. It did not work the first time but did.thesecond time. Not sure id that was it or if it just cranked. Will keep an eye on it and try again. Desperate to find the problem. Anyone.

i don't know of any good way to check for a leaky injector. i guess you could pull the fuel rails with the injectors attached and pressurize the the system by turning the key to RUN position, problem is i don't think anything holds the injectors on the rails other than the "O" rings and bolting the rail down, so they'd just blow out creating a real mess. besides, that would be a big job to do. maybe pulling the spark plugs and checking for a wet one would tell you something. but that would need to be done on a pretty hot engine. not much fun.

OK here goes, I may have found my problem but I can't figure out where to go next. I replaced the Crank position sensor just because I bought it. But when I tested the wiring harnesses I was not able to get any voltage reading. My repair book says that I should get 1.5 volts on one of the wires, I get nothing. Then manual says what pins in the CPU that the crank is on but nothing is labeled. How do I Trace this down. Any help will be greatly appreciated. PLEASE anyone.

Crank Position Sensor shows to be on pin 21 and 22 but damn if I can figure out which ones these are.

Anyone have a way to find these, wiring chart or something?

Book says yes internet says no. Am I supposed to have voltage on the harnesses at the crank position sensor. Repair book says that their should be 1.5 volts on one of the two wires with key on. Internet does not say this. I am not talking about the voltage from the sensor itself. I have no voltage on my wires while disconnected from crank sensor and key on.

Anyone have a way to find these, wiring chart or something?

I suspect you'll find you have low fuel pressure and or leaking injectors when you finally find a useable pressure gauge. From what i've read one way you can tell if it's the fpr is to pull the vac line off and inspect for raw fuel in the line. Good luck!

buy the way, autozone usually has more than one of any given loan-a-tool in stock. maybe they have another fuel pressure gauge with the parts you need. if not they can just rrequest a new one from HQ with all the parts.

Ok here is the latest. I was not able to find a fuel pressure gauge that worked other that buying one and unfortunately it is not in my budget to buy one now. I know they are not that much but. So I did the next best thing. My wife always tells me that I am great at rigging things so that is what i did. Take one long valve stem extensions ment for the inside tire of a dually and remove the test valve. Then take 12 to 16 inches of hose and one dial type air gauge with a few hose clamps and hook it all together in a line and for a few bucks you have yourself a home made fuel pressure gauge. Test as normal.

I found I had 29 psi with key on and about the same with engine running. Pull the vacuum line and have around 38 to 40. No fuel in vacuum line.

Specks in manual states 30-45 psi. However I just two weeks ago put a brand new fuel pump in my sons 1998 explorer, this 96 calls for the same pump, so I hooked up a battery to the 98, it is not yet road ready. The 98 had 43 psi with key on and off twice. Can't crank 98 yet.

Question, the pressure is lower and most likely my problem, but the fuel rail between the 96 (plate type) and the 98 rail type is different. Should my 96 be at the same psi as the 98. Both look to be loop type fuel systems.

Also when the 96 starts and running it is a little rough, it is overdue for full tune up, but I do not have any power loss during driving.

Does this still sound like a week pump?

Bump. Want to work on it Saturday if I get the right answers.

fuel presure / starting please look here

What do you think.

Anyone please check out my fuel pressure. What do you think. Going to spend money in the morning, unless someone has a better idea.

Thanks Turdle for the PM.
