I am installing a new 3rd member (well - used, but new to me ;)) for the front axle of my '93

I can't get the c-clip to work right with the locker. I installed it as close to the outside of the unit as possible (only 1 piece of the locker outside of the clip) and the center pin won't go back in. My c-clip is a snap-ring style, unlike the simple clips in the rear end. Am I missing something here? I downloaded the instructions and I seem to be doing things right. My wife is out a garage and I am in BIG TROUBLE! HELP!!!

When you install an ARB you scrap the C-clip and install a spring in beteween the two axle halfs on the long side as a C-clip eliminator. The spring needs to be fairly heavy to hold tension.

I never installed the Powertrax so I don't know for sure. Sorry.

Make sure you removed the old side gear shim

Old side-gear shim? I don't follow...

This unit came out of a Ranger (I think) already pre-setup. I thought I just needed to pop the axle and clip in. What is the side gear shim?

Jon I bought mine this way as well, even though it's a detroit they are probably very similar. What we did was pop the pins so the locker would slide apart, slide in the shaft, and carefully slide the c-clip back in. It was very frusterating if this was necessary but glad it was done. We did take the c-clip's edges to a bench grinder on the outer edges to make it work. Hope this helps, it can be done, only one would think it couldn't

Danny,
So if I pop out the dowels holding this thing together and take most of it out, then grind the clip down...

Geesh - you would think it would be a little easier than that! :)

Thanks for your input - I'll keep you guys posted. Any more input is most appreciated!
