Oh, on CyanLabs I remember I did update from Sync 3 to 3.4.Hi there and apologies for not being more specific with my reply. Here is a quick summary of what I have done when I upgraded to Sync3 in my car. Btw. the actual hardware swap is quite simple once you have all the bits and pieces required.
1. First you need to know what features you have - what type of climate, audio, navigation etc. Incorrect settings with some of these features have barely any noticeable effect, whereas others, e.g. the above mentioned climate control, are quite obvious and your are not able to control the systems properly. The Sync 3 unit you used to replace your Sync 2 unit may come from a vehicle with a very different set of features/systems than you have.
2. As mentioned before it is a golden rule to back up (download) your as-built data for every module you are attempting to modify its configuration. You can decode your original configuration also from as-built files from Ford site here: https://www.motorcraftservice.com/AsBuilt , but this is more complicated.
3. To decode your original Sync 2 settings and learn about their counterparts in Sync 3 (APIM "screen" and ACM "radio" modules in particular) you need to go to the Cyanlabs databases.
4. Be aware that the transfer of settings from Sync 2 to Sync 3 is not a 1 to 1 mirroring task. Some settings reside at the same addresses (values) other may be located at completely different locations. And in some cases the settings are not transferable because these are two different generations of hardware.
5. The good news is that climate control is relatively well understood but you need to browse the forums (Cyanlabs and Forscan in particular) to find the settings that fit your configuration. There are some known issues, such as the reverse function / indication of some controls (dual climate, rear zone lock, etc.), temperature and ventilation speed popups not showing when using hardware controls etc.
6. Keep applying changes gradually otherwise you will get lost. Once a change yields the desired effect save the module so you can get back if the next step does not work properly.
7. There is a "user friendly" mode in Forscan that allows you to toggle settings using dropdowns and human language rather than number writing into the as-built format.
Good luck with it, it can be a time consuming process, but be patient and you will get there.
