Hi, I'm brand new to the site and have very limited knowledge on cars and speaker systems but have a big problem with my Explorer....

I got my car ten years ago and it had the original stereo system in still. The speakers were blown out and it just needed to be replaced. A few weeks after I bought it I took it into a Best Buy and got a Pioneer system put in. Like I said, I know.... well nothing about wiring but I do know when I have no sound coming out of my back speakers.

Because of the time and money requirement to fix that problem I have left them as they are, but tonight when I pulled into my driveway, the front passenger speaker started crackling and got really quiet.:(

If anyone is willing to take on the job of telling/teaching me how, I would love to fix this problem at my house instead of taking it into a stereo store that I can't afford.

Thanks in advance!:)

Crackling usually means loose connections -- pull the head unit back (towards the rear of the vehicle) and check that the harness they used is tight. If thats all good, then check the connection at the speakers.

If you find nothing of note behind the radio, we'll help you pull a door panel. It's VERY possible they used T-taps or Scotch Loks to install the proper ends on the speakers, and they tend to rattle loose over time. Water corrosion on the terminals isn't unheard of, either.

Welcome to Explorer Forum!

Now if I'm reading this right you said you have no sound from your rear speakers. Is this right after Best Buy installed your system or did they work for awhile?

And someone correct me if I'm wrong. Sidebar says it's a '91 Eddie - would that have one of the uppity sytems in it with the rear amp? I know that's why the system in my brother's Firebird isn't the greatest - has that "Monsoon" stuff they put in GM's.

i'm having the same problems with mine, almost EXACTLY. i don't know to much about car wiring, but i'm redoing my interior this summer so i'm running new wires to all the speakers and replacing the factory amp
