Need new tires

I have used Coopers and I was happy with them too.

I figure that tires are a very important part of your vehicle so why not get something that is good and high quality? The michelin LTX MS is a very high quality tire and not as expensive tire as the LTX AT. My parents have them on the 99 XLT and they are excellent. Very quiet, smooth, and have superb traction. Just my opinion.

I agree about the premium tires, which is the main reason I bought the new michilin Cross Terrains. They are an advanced LTX M/S with better traction ratings and some people say better treadlife. i would pay the extra for a high quality product...especially after the huge issue with the cheap tires firestone had on the Explorer.

Got a new truck, basically the exact same as my old one, but it needs new tires. Right now it has the wrangler 235/75R15's and they suck in the rain so I am assuming they suck in snow as well, and the tread isn't even that bad! I was thinking about some 30x9.5's or some other 235/75R15's. Being that it is only 2WD too, anyone have some suggestions for tires that stick in the rain/snow for a 2WD X?...thanks.

What did you decide on????

new tires

I still haven't made a decison yet. I have it narrowed down, but I can't get them unitl around the 26-27th b/c I am down at school right now and I can get better deals at home (South Bend, IN) and I just found out last week that I have to work up until Christmas eve, so I am just waiting and hoping for no snow. I am either going with the pirelli scorpions or the mastercraft A/T's. I like the michilen, but I can't afford them. The pirellis are a little cheaper, but the mastercrafts are the most afforable for me right now. As for size, I would like to go up to 30x9.5's, but my front coils are original OEM and the front end sags pretty bad, so I would probably have to get new coils if I went bigger than the 235/75R15's, and I don't have the money for new coils right now, besides, if I did get new ones, I would probably go with a 2" coil lift and shackles in the back-more money that I don't have.

I didn't mention it in my reply but I did go with 30 x 9.5's. I have 216,000 miles on my '96 and the front doesn't sag. Besides they aren't that much bigger than 235's.

The 93 and 96 have totally different front suspensions. I doubt it is possable for the front of a 95+ truck to sag because the torsion bars can;t get twisted much i wouldn;t think. As for the tire size I think the 30x9.5 would fit ok. i have equivlent to 31X10.5 on mine and it fits fine. You said you might want the perelli scorpions, but you didn;t say what model. i know the perellis on my mom's van are terrable. They are quite loud at highway speeds and i would not recommend buying a set. She has the Scorpion A/S. I also can say we arn;t very satisfied with the snow traction they offer either. I know her vehicle is a fullsize van and that every vehicle performs differently, but i thought i would just give my $.02 on the issue. :chug:

I thought it was just me, but the Wrangler RT/S's suck in the rain. So I am really not looking forward to using them in snow. I am thinking of having them changed for maybe Michelins Cross Terrains or BFG AT's. The Michelins sound good because I do alot of highway driving but I would love to have the traction of the BFG when it snows.

Does anyone out there have BFG AT's on their X and does it vibrate or make alot of road noise when on a highway at higher speeds?

Thanks

edman,
the michelin cross terrains get a pretty good rating in snow. i would personally definatly go with the michelin. they will give a smoother ride, longer lasting trwad, and a very quiet ride. the BFG are loud.

95XLT

Thanks, I was actually at Sears today looking at the different Michelins I probably would be going with the Cross Terrains or the Michelin AT's, not sure yet just did a big job on my X so I have to wait to get paid again.
Thanks again

tires

I ended up getting the mastercraft courser A/T's. Because of my very limited budget, for $300 mounted and balanced for all four, I couldn't go wrong. Thanks to everyone for all your input!
