Ran into a problem tonight when I went to hook up the battery to start the Sploder.

Three weeks ago I had the batter hooked up and there were no problems. Tested some wiring and everything was ok.

Tonight I went to hook up the battery and start it up, when I did, there was A LOT of arcing going on. More than there should be. I might as well have been welding.

Not much has changed in the three weeks.

The only other part of the electrical system I have touched is bolting the starter up and hooking its power lead up.

So if anyone has had the same problem, please let me know what you did to solve it. I want to hit the major problem areas first and then start the little things.

Thanks!

Arcing is caused by current draw. Either something is on and pulling amps or something is shorted. If the absolute only thing that has changed is the starter, you are most of the way there. Check the wiring once, then again. Check for a short in the starter.

I agree, pull the starter and bench test it. That much arcing is usually caused by something that pulls alot of amps anyway, like a starter or a winch.

Figured it out. It was the starter.

Seems that I somehow got the stock 2.8L starter to fit inside the C5 housing with the 4.0L block in the way. Sometimes I surprise myself.

The stock A4LD starter is physically smaller and shaped differently to fit and it will work with the C5 flexplate.

Thanks for the help!
