im not sure were to start, my check engine light is on. people have told me they think my fuel pump is goig bad, when i pull up to a stop light, my truck goes haywire, the battery gauge starts jumping, as do the lights and power. its like it is surging, the truck starts jumping like its getting to much gas then getting none then getting to much then none. some times when i take off it doesnt want to get gas and wants to die before eventually taking off. the check engine light tells me the fuel is to rich, but i put the cheap stuff in it. its a 92 4x4 automatic, high miles. it doesnt have this trouble all the time, some days it drives great, some days it doesnt want to move. when it runs good it is a great running truck, and well worth the $1000 that i payed for it. i am losing my job because of ford, i dont need my ford dieing on me at the same time, anyone have any suggestions on what it could be? i have changed the enigine coolent temp sensor to the computer, and the o2 sensor, to help the problem i had with it starting. it either has all those problems at once or it runs just fine.

You could start with cleaning the mass airflow (MAF) sensor. It's located right after the air cleaner. There is a lot of posts on how to do this here at the site.

Rich fuel could mean not enough air. Fuel mixture is computer controlled. After the things you changed, did you disconnect the battery? Try to unhook it for about 1/2 hour & see how it responds.
Hope this helps

Welcome to this forum! Did you ever check your voltage when everything goes haywire? Maybe your terminals need to be cleaned, or you could have a bad ground connection.
I was thinking that also.

Yep, check your battery cables. Look for loose vacumm lines. Clean the MAF.

And get your codes read! You can buy a cheap code reader for $30 or take it to a auto parts shop, some of them read your codes for free. Once you get your codes read, post them. That will help us help you.

I havent unhooked the battery, i will try that and cleaning the MAF sensor, then i will go get my codes re ran.
i did have the voltage checked it was just fine.
thanks everyone for your help.
