needing some direction.. 03 Ranger Edge

I joined this forum because of my Sploder but now I'm needing some help with my Ranger too... Its a 2003 Ford Ranger Edge 2 wheel drive. 122 thousand miles on it.. My wife just called from work and said the check engine light came on.. She checked all fluid levels and saidthe gauges all look normal.. I haven't had a minutes trouble with it since I bought it new...This is the first time for the light to ever come on.. Can anyone point me toward what normally gives you the first check engine light?

I reset the computer a couple days ago.... So FAR, it hasn't slung the code again in a couple 100 miles ... If and when it does.. I will either by a code reader or take it to Autozone and let them do it

I haven't made it too get the codes yet because I can't get off work with time... I'm 40 miles from nearest town too so that doesn't help BUT I have new clue.. My Check engine light only comes on after filling up with gas..Does this new clue help in any way?.. She can put 10 - 20 dollars in it and it don't throw a code, only after its filled up..

The computer should store the last thrown code, so you don't need to wait for the light to be on to check it.

I guess I will have to buy a code reader.. I finally got a chance to go to town yesterday and BOTH Advance and Autozone claimed their reader was tore up.. Advance did try but it wouldn't work , Would not show anything
