I work in District Court and last week I had a Misdemeaner Arraignment calendar. After court was over, we got to shooting the breeze with the deputies. They are getting pushed hard to ticket vehicles with anything other than factory lights. They said the big emphasis is on colored exterior lighting-under body, head, tail and fog lights, and especially wiper and hood lights. It seems that they want to make sure anything "fun" is illegal.

well blue and red lights are def illegal because those are the colors of law enforcement vehicles. it would not be right if someone with blue and red lights on their car was mistaked to be a police car. it is also distracting to the eye when driving around. people do tend to notice different colors more than amber or white. therefore cops dont want to deal wtih accidents that could happen.

Yeah, I agree with that. My post was mostly meant as a warning to those running with their lights on. We're trying to get retailers to display warnings by their merchandise notifying customers that, even though they are for sale, their use may be prohibited by law-many do not do that now. The law enforcement community here supports that, as it may relieve them of this ticket writing and get them out working more serious crimes.

thats crap!! grr

Ever wonder how extra fog lights can be illegal and yet semi-trucks are not bothered with? Some of those guys have got more lights than a small town Main St.
Oh well, if lights are the only thing you ever get pulled over for your doing OK.

With all these stupid laws that they keep putting on us, Soon its going to be Illegal to drive a NICE car!

Make sure you check your local laws because they are different from state to state, city to city etc. I don't believe there are any federal laws regulating that kind of thing. I know in Michigan where I live there are a number of laws like that including a limit of I believe 4 lights in the front of your car, i.e. Headlights and foglights. Anything over and above that is ticketed. Underbody neons are not allowed :( meaning that I only run mine in parking lots usually while not driving. Even then tickets can still be given. Michigan is very strict, more so than many other states but it still might be worth a look for anyone interested in their own state's law. Better safe than sorry.

I second that about michigan I live right by the state police station on telegraph so I don't mess around with any of that stuff. Suprisingly haven't got pulled for my tint yet even though my dad does all the time and he has the same as me on his F150

:( pretty much...ive heard they are going to make HID illegal.

I don't get how anyone could think a car with a blue underbody neon is a cop, if I see a white Crown Vic behind me then i'm more likely to slow down then for someone with a blue neons.

Here in washington state i have talked to local police officers, and i was told that colored lights are illegal during driving, parking lots are OK, but if you use LED lights its purfectly legal, such as the wipers lights, and things, but keep in mind you will be hassled to the extent you will keep them off.

I agree with cartman.. honestly.. you see blue washer LEDS and you think its a cop? maybe you've been living in a closet for the past year or so cos EVERYONE has those stupid things and 90% of them are blue. there isn't an even slightly modified import here w/o them.

and yes, underbody is a cop? well someone turn him over hurry! hes flipped over and the lights are stuck on stagnant instead of strobing like ALL COP LIGHTS DO.

I swear a cops car looks like a 1 man UFO on a road w/o street lights.

I was coming back from the lake not too long ago.. some cop had pulled a guy over.. for who knows what. I swear I saw the lights before I topped the hill and I was expecting 3 or 4 ambulances fire trucks and cop cars... maybe even a UFO the size of a football stadium.. the lights on those things are ridiculoius and it is impossible to mistake the components that people use to mod their cars with as a cop.

HIDs are the best damn lights around.. if your eyes hurt from them you need to tint your windows or stop staring at them as they pass... the only reason they look so bright is because our lights SUCK in comparison.

people refusing to allow and accept change hold the world back.. I mean its a given that one cannot slap blue strobes on their dash or white strobes in their headlights and drive down the road with it.. but c'mon IMO you're really not even trying to pay attention if you mistake a stagnant blue light under a car for a cops brightly flashing strobe on top.

just my $5.00..

and I dont mean any disrespect to any cops or "police officers" or whatever you wish to be called, its a harsh underpaid job and I respect the risks they take daily. But theres no need to waste time ticketting some 16 year old with a honda cos he has illegal fake HID headlights when there are kidnappings murder theft and everything else going on on a daily basis.
