Neutral Safety Switch

2000 Explorer XLS. The gearshift is hard to get out of Park. Could this be the Neutral Switch bad or is it in the steering column ?
I have a matching 1999 also and it is smooth to take out of Park.

Welcome to the forum! I think it could be the linkage inside the column could be bad. There are metal bushings inside there that can break down over time. I know Chevy has that issue on the older vehicles where it's near impossible to move the lever if the bushings are gone.
