I installed a new Nocturnal Performance CAI on my 08 STA which is completely stock about a week ago. I really like how clean it looks inside the engine compartment. It uses the stock airbox was about a 10 minute install and the tube doesn't get hot because it's not routed over the engine but follows almost the same path as stock. I noticed definite performance gains although I don't have Dyno or A/F numbers, which no one else really does either since our traction control system won't allow a true Dyno run. Things I noticed was that the truck idles smoother than stock, the throttle response is better and more consistent from low rpm to the high rpm range, the truck breaths much better, it has better torque so it pulls harder all the way through the power bands and the shifts are smoother. A couple other things I've noticed is in a week about .5 mpg increase in city driving and up to 1.2 mpg increase on the highway. There is no whistle when you mash the gas with this intake either it sounds like good old fashion horsepower very similar to a 4 barrel carb kicking in. All in all no downside to the install, no check engine lights, no studdering, no vibrations and no whistles. It's a win-win mod in my opinion because it cost less than 1/2 what alot of the other CAIs on the market cost, it looks great under the hood and there are definite performance improvements.

I have the same thing coming next week. I hope it responds as well as the Adrenalin. Actually, are there any mechanical differences?

AdrnlnRush,

We've got lots of CAI here in the Great Northeast... and it's FREE!
However, "... your mileage may vary."

I'm sure the mileage will vary either up or down they are definitely not scientific, these were just results from doing some comparisons before the install and afterwards. The main thing I like is the way it looks under the hood and the fact that the truck just seems to run smoother than with the stock intake.

Appreicate your info.

Was thinking yesterday we should all contribute our info to a table so we can compare mileage in different situation, temps, etc.

Landscape here is not flat, so every time the nose of the STA points the least little bit upwards, guess what? Mileage goes down... As for dowhill, guess what? The mileage increases... it's like the computer, cruise control, and fuel pump are tied into an old-fashioned liquid mercury switch.

The extra cold temps have raised hell with mileage too...

-30 C to -35 C = 16.5 mpg highway
-10 C to -15 C = 17.5 mpg highway
0 C to -10 C = 18.5 mpg highway
+10 C to 0 C = 19~20 mpg highway

Am expecting this May/June's warmer temps of 20C to 30C (65 to 85 F) to give me 22~26 highway. Spose it's possible?

This is, of course, calculated on Imperial gallons (4.54 liters/gal) vs US gallons @ 3.78 liters/gal.

Why don't you list where you bought it.

How much was it and do they claim any HP gains.

I see that the Nocturnal Intake is displayed on the Zabteck site now!!

Yeah but no hp numbers and it's 99.00 bucks for a tube no high flow filter. I can't see any benefit to this. UIN2IT you have this right does it come with a highflow filter.

The Noc-Perf intake does not come with a filter at the moment. Green Filters is supplying one but it will nto be till next month sometime.

As for the intake itself...it get's rid of the turbulent air that is caused by the stock tube.

HP Numbers: Untill someone can figure out a way to dissable the Trac Control on this vehicle there will not be a dyno in the world that can produce real numbers. Turning the trac control off with the button is great under 35mph...once the trac get's above that the trac control automatically turns backl on. Even on the best CAI out there (which I belive the noc-perf one is) you will only see a gain of 3-5 rwhp anyhow!

Take it form those who have done the mod....IT WORKS!

K&N shows a 10 hp increase, and you need an all wheel drive dyno like for a STI or EVO not to many shops have them because they are expensive.

and you believe it gives 10hp? I once had it on my truck....and my new intkae gives a better performance feel and shows more mpg than the other one.

To be honest you can't tell if your vehicle has 10 more or less hp it's not that much of a difference. Most people add a part and believe they feel a difference it's the placebo effect. They do have dyno sheets to show the 10hp increase whether or not there accurate is another story. All performance parts makers inflate hp ratings. The thing I don't get about the nocturnal is how do you increase hp or mpg with just a tube and keep the stock filter. The tube may make the air less turbulent which would explain throttle response. Is the stock air box modified at all or is it all stock except for the tube.

I've heard this dyno perspective on a few different threads and don't quite understand....there are plenty of 4 wheel rolling dynos around....especially for those that specialize in AWD cars like subarus or Evos. Find a SCT dealer that has one and tune the truck to the specific config.....am I missing something?

It isn't the AWD that's a problem, it's the traction control that isn't able to be bypassed even with a tuner (that I've yet seen- it'll happen). I've e-mailed Tim at MPH and Doug at Bama to see if they have any ideas yet.

What does traction control have to do with a dyno unless your losing traction on the dyno. I don't think traction control is active until you lose traction so that should not be an issue on a dyno. There are lots of cars out there that you can't completely deactivate the traction control and they have been dynoed. I have posted on my cobra forum so hopefully I will get some responses from tuners soon I will post when I do.
