Just wanted to say thanks for such a great web site. I recently acquired a '97 Explorer XLT with the 4.0SOHC for a steal. 135,000 miles. Since taking possession, I have:
-Replaced the Front and Rear Shocks, Replaced lower rear shock bolts (%&# salt and rust)
-Replaced the front sway bar links (Drivers side was broken)
-New Tires (Firestone Destination LE's - I know, I know... This is NOT my off road machine - The F150 fits the bill for that)
-Flushed the Radiator
-Replaced the Thermostat
-Exchanged tranny fluid
-Repaired the broken door locking wire in the drivers door boot after finding that trick here (after trying non returnable replacement switch
)
-Replaced the burnt out bulb in the headlight switch with a previous owner supplied bulb (directions to access the dash and bezel found here on the website)
-Replaced two burnt out bulbs in the dash
-Replaced the bulb in the 4wd switch in the dash (using a radio shack bulb replacement I found here)
-Freed up the passenger and tailgate keyholes that were stuck
-Replaced the Cruise Control Switches (to replace a dead bulb) after really botching the repair job - helpful tip - don't pull on that harness too hard and tear the connector off! Bit the bullet and just bought the replacement switches.
Whew!
So after all that, what's left?
-Center Console repair to cracked vinyl (method found on the site!)
-Replace right front fog lamp assembly (I replaced the bulb only to find out the lens had severely degraded). Replacement part from Roack Auto in transit...
-Repair the drivers seat recliner lever.
Almost done - I'm sure I come up with something more!
Nice site and ultra appreciative of the sharing of information!
