:exp: Bought a new 04 XLT a few months ago and want to either replace the tail pipe with a chrome one or switch out the exhaust to duals. But, here's the downside. My new baby is a V6 not a V8. Will it sound stupid if I change out the exhaust system (don't want to sound like a ricer going down the street)? Right now the tail pipe is bugging me. It's looks like someone's cigar hanging out of the back of my BEAUTIFUL BLACK AND CHROME baby! What would you do? :exp:

Just do a nice single pipe cat-back and have a chrome tip welded on. If you choose a a good muffler, like a Flowmaster 50, it won't be overly loud, will sound good, add power, and look nice out the back. Now, if you're looking to save money, go get yourself a universal chrome tip and screw it right on.

couple of issues here - one with duals you'll probably lose back pressure and in turn performance, if you were goning to do anything find a cat back kit thats meant for the truck otherwise they may mess with you at the dealership on warranty issues. ie: o2 sensors, premature cat failure, any drivability issue...etc

He didn't say he wanted TRUE duals, he just said duals. You can do a Y pipe after the muffler or just a dual out muffler and not lose backpressure.

He also didn't say he didn't want true duals, so I was answering his question for that instance, but for how you interpreted you would be correct.

hey, I'm not a he - I'm a she! I like the sound of Flowmasters, my boyfriend had them on his last cobra. He's switched to Steedas on his new one. But, I don't want something that's real loud, and I'm worried that it will sound funny being a V6 instead of an V8. Also, the tail pipe kind of sticks out of the side instead of the back and you can see it all the way back to the muffler. Just looks wierd and I want to do something different with it. Keep on thinking guys - I know there's a cost effective solution out there somewhere! Thanks!

If you just want to change the looks, just take it a muffler shop and tell them what you want. Get them to reroute the tail pipe and weld on a nice tip. Also, there are about 1000 people on this board w/ aftermarket exhausts on V6's and most will tell you they do not sound bad. The Flowmaster 50, which I mentioned earlier, is not a loud muffler and will sound fine on a V6.

Thanks!

I appreciate your input. Actually, my other half wants me to put dual exhausts on it and I wanted to get other opinions before I did anything. Part of my Xmas present was a K&N air filter lol!

Thanks again!
