- 1993 Explorer XLT 4x4
Hey Y'all, new member here so thought I would share my explorer build. Well thinking it out for now, it's a 93 explorer XLT 4x4 with the 4.0 OHV motor. I'm the third owner, my Aunt was the last owner and she bought it in 96. It was their back up vacation truck, they didn't drive it much and their kids didn't want to drive it so I offered a price and got my first "truck" this year.
It had 76K on the odometer when I bought it, not in the best condition, hood and roof clear coat is peeling off the paint. The headliner is completely ripped out except for the backing foam, and the trunk floor has some surface rust on the inside. The driver door is a quirky one, if I use the lock switch from the inside then I can't unlock the driver door from the outside. So just been using my key to unlock and lock the doors when I need to. On the same door my window will not roll up or down, just makes a low grinding noise, also on the same door the grab handle snapped off so it's a little tricky to close the door from the inside. I think I just need a whole new door from the scrap yard hahahaha!
I've had to do some maintenance since buying it, I had the alternator, EGR valve, EGR solenoid headlight switch and new serpentine belt put on. After all that from a shop I won't name I still had the same EGR codes and check engine light, and my 12v outlet wasn't working anymore. So I did my own digging, found the cigarette outlet unplugged!! Then I figured if they left something that easy unplugged what else did they leave. Maybe they didn't reset the battery, so I disconnected the battery for 30mins. Reconnect the battery and WOW no more engine light. It's been a few months since that and the truck has been running a lot better.
I know I'm not a certified mechanic, but how can I trust that shop after spending a couple grand? I got myself a Haynes manual for the truck and a set of 6 ton jack stands. I plan of doing my own maintenance and repairs that I feel comfortable doing.
I plan on making a build thread pretty soon if I find time for it. Thanks for taking the time to read this and hope to make some good memories on here. I plan on fixing the headliner and trunk, exterior trim, new headlights, fix the door and suspension in the near future.
