New from Cali '02 explorer xls

Im not catching 1st gear when i put it in drive and times while im driving.i put it in park back to drive and itll catch with jolt.what could my problem be.any info on this subject will be appreciated.

One way low sprag/clutch has an issue?

I don't know but throwing it out there because you are only having intermittent problems with torque being applied to 1st gear. I say the low sprag because I think there's a "direct drive" sprag used for 2nd through 4th gears.

p.s. I think that thread you linked in is for 2nd gen Explorers using the E tranny whereas I think you have the W or S...FWIW. In any case, it doesn't sound like the infamous IM or OD servo piston problem.
