Hey guys, new to the site just figured I'd let you guys know where at I'm with my projects.

I plan on swapping out the 4.0 and the axles that I have in my Expolrer into my 88 BII with a 4'' lift and 31's.. for now. I plan on getting 35's, and I have 4.10's waiting to be installed. But heres my problems:

4.0:
I had it started and running fine. Then I pulled it into the shop to change the oil, and now I can't get any spark. I've checked all the fuses, fuel pump inertia switch, fuel filter, shot ether in to the throttle body, and could not get it to fire. It would crank all day, but not fire. What am I missing?

Trans:
The guy that I bought it from said the trans was shot, but I just dumped two quarts of fluid in and drove it around the yard. 1st and 2nd worked fine, but drive and overdrive did not. So I dropped the pan and the fluid was pretty much black, and had some small shavings on the bottom of the pan. I was hoping that a good fluid flush would solve its problems. What do you guys think?

Here's some pics of my Explorer and BII

I dont get it. You jsut bought the explorer, it was running for a bit until you went to cahnge the oil and now it won't fire?

the auto trans also has issues?

And the plan is to put this all into the BII

Hell yes I say, 4.0L + BII = :)

However I am not sure what you are asking.

First check the 30 amp EEC power fuse under the hood of that 93.

Yes, I drove it around the yard for about 5 minutes to get it warm, then I changed the oil and tranny fluid, and now it won't start.

I guess what I'm asking is-what I am forgetting in trying to get the motor to run again? I did check that fuse and it was fine. I've had some expierence with Ford motors when I ran demo derby cars and I know that one ground somewhere will shut things down. I'm stumped right now.

If I can't get it running again I might just say screw it and pull it and try to figure it out when its out of the truck. It also needs new valve cover gaskets, thermostat seal, exhaust manifolds, tune up, and a good cleaning.

it sounds like electrical, battery terminals and wires?

Since it was running before the oil change I would check the gtround wire near the oil filter. It goes from battery to frame and then back to engine block.

However since the starter cranks the block must be grounded.

I dont know, no spark is not something that usually happens with the OHV 4.0L
Check relays under fuse box, one is EEC relay.

i know this doesn't have anything to do with what yer asking but i'd sell those 4.10's and go 4.56's or 5.13's cuz otherwise u wont like it. i damn near gaurantee it...

yeah 4.10 with 35's and the 4.0L is do-able, but you would prefer 4.56

Welcome aboard, keep up posted about your B11 project sounds interesting. I'd keep the 31s on with the 4.10s and if you did go with the 35s change gears like the guys said. Sounds like the tranny is shot.

Thanks guys for the different points of view. I'll check those relays under the fuse panel first. Also, I don't have a service manual yet, but where is the coil on these? Maybe I have the coil pack to distributor wire off or something. I'm at college right now so I'm just planning ahead for the weekend.

I figure if the trans is shot I can still use the trans that is in my 88 BII, or I have an extra A4LD from my 85 BII. Correct me if I'm wrong, but these transmissions will bolt up, but I just need a computer from a manual Explorer for the swap to work, correct?

As far as gears go, I don't do any rockcrawling, just mainly mud and some tight trails. I'd like to keep the 4.10's cause I already have the front pig set up and ready to go. Plus I'm trying to keep my costs down. Do you think I should step down to 33'' LTB's or try like a 35x12.50 Hi-Tech Re-tread, which is more like a 34.5'' tire?

Thanks for the help guys!

i think with 4.10's and 31's performance will be good. fun to play with it atleast performance wise. 33's absolute tops if u insist on moving up in tire size. don't even considere 35's as an option.

Well right now my mind is set of some 33'' LTB's. But when I get things swapped in I'll see how it acts and then make my tire decision. Right now I just want to get the darn 4.0 running again.
