I installed a new head unit in my explorer and the stereo sounds worse then before. do I have to bypass the factory amp??? if so how??? or do i buy a better head unit with a high pass filter. I have been searching for about an hour and havent found the answer yet.
thanks in advance

You prob have a factory amp. I dont know much about the rangers but some systems had the amps. If so you need to remove it. I had to remove it from my 91 explorer to make it sound good.

this is in my explorer....where was your amp???and was it easy to bypass???

Hi COB,

The factory amps are behind the trim panel on the passenger side of the cargo bay.

Do a search, there's tons of info here on this.

You can buy a bypass harness for $15-20. I don't know what kind of audio stores you have in Canada. Best Buy and Circuit City here in the sates sell them as well as Crutchfield which might be your best bet.

cool thanks guys

You can also cut the amp connectors off and splice the signal wires to the speaker wires, but you need a good wiring diagram to do that. The bypass harness would be much easier, it's plug and play.

bought the harness today got home and tore into it..the dink's sold me the wrong one...so i just spliced them all together and it sound way better.

didn't get on here soon enough. was gonna tell you that best buy doesn't have the right bypass harness for '96-01 explorers. good that ya got it working though
