Hi guys have a 94 XL 4x4 not working put new stop in transfer case motor and it will work about 50 percent of the time I have heard of the controller box going bad when you replace the battery and I am just wondering if I can replace the hubs with Warn manual hubs with the spindle nut conversion kit if I can still use the switch on the dash to engage transfer case! any help would be greatly appreciated! Adam

before you replace the hubs make sure the transfer case is working correctly.

Not only can you still use the dash switch to engage the transfer case, you must use the dash switch to engage the transfer case. With manual hubs, the transfer case and hubs operate independently of each other.

Did you take a peek at the troubleshooting 4x4 thread? It has lots of good info and pics. If your 4x4 only works 50% of the time how do you get it work?

Just some random thoughts: If you replaced the stop bushing with a soft rubber hose, or under sized hose it may compressor too much and allow the shift motor geared position sensor to travel slightly outside its operational range. Normal driving or hitting pot holes may jar the sensor re-establishing good contact within its operational range.. The next time this occurs try gently taping the shift motor to see if this will work.
