I have 1998 Ford Truck Explorer 4WD 4.0L EFI 6cyl.

I cleaned idle air control valve, but it was not enough to fix the sound.
Nowdays, it is better situation. no sound.

But I ordered idle air control valve (AC290=AC473) to have comfortable mind.
After replacing new IAC, my engine was turned off.

after replacing old IAC, my engine working is fine.

I want to know the problem. I got this new one from Ebay.
I need to make some decision to return it or use for next step.

Please give me your help and thank you all friends.

What, exactly is your question? Does the new IAC make a noise like sucking air? If so, it is the gasket/seal most likely. A small bit of RTV sealer on the old gasket will fix it. Or you can get new seals from Rock Auto.

The new IAC made a noise like sucking air and my engline was turned off.
My old IAC didn't have a seal of flat type, so I just attach the new IAC without a seal of flat type.

Do I need to attach a new seal flat type or another seal?

I don't know. Please help and thank you so much.

What engine do you have? Mine is the OHV 4.0. It uses an "o-ring" type seal kinda shaped like a figure 8. It looks likd there are two type of seals. The o-ring, and the flat gasket. If you have the o-ring type gasket, you can help seal the IAC with some RTV silicone. Use a small amount. That is what I used for mine, no noise. I ordered new seals from Rock Auto, just haven't needed it yet. They have them a bunch cheaper, even with shipping, than the Ford dealer. If you are getting noise with the engine shut off, that is beyond me without standing there listening to it.

My engine is the OHV 4.0.
I want to buy right parts for sealing my IAC.

I will buy the first one below the site:
http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,carcode,1304424,parttype,6474

But I can not find the o-ring type gasket that you mentioned.

Please give me more information about the site.

Thank you and I will try to install it after getting all things.

Blessings.. ^^

Paul, are saying that when you installed the new IAC, the engine would not run? Are you thinking the lack of a good seal is the problem? Best wishes.

Thank you for helping me.

I heard that a salesman of Ford part department said that my new idle air control valve (AC290) is the same like a original one.
But it was not working, so I think that my new part is wrong.
As a result, I make a decision that I return the new idle air control valve to ebay seller.

My car is running with old idle air control valve. I am nervous because I saw engine light three days ago. But right now no engine light....

After receiving a good part, I will say my story.

Thank you for reading and helping in a good friendship.

From Paul.
