ok, i was thinking.. and someone tell me if this is doable.
get4 bumper hitch ... cut and fit anf weld to frame. get 4 straight hitch receiver... and slide it into the hitch upside down. weld 4x2x3/18(thick)x 5' onto the end of the receiver where the ball usually attaches.
now, the question is, will the tounge of the receiver hold the weight of the slider when the slider hits a rock?
u would think it would cause it is so think, dont u?
i think this setup is cheaper and easier then making one from scratch.
comments and suggestions pls?!!

I think that Mudd*****'s are like that, pretty cool. That is what I was thinking about doing as well then the time comes.

Okay so the whole point is a removable slider correct?
using a receiver for this is not a new idea by any means.

Personally if I had an Explorer (I dont) I would build sliders that distribute the load along the pinch weld between the floor pan and rocker panel, similar to a Jeep, maybe attach to the two body mounts for additional support.

I have heard of using U bolts to attach sliders to the frame, this is the route I will be going on my BII, to make them bolt on/removeable.......

why make them re-moveable? for body repair, cleaning, paint, working under the truck, many reasons........

Spreading the load along the entire rocker is the best setup..........this way you are actually supporting the truck by the body and the frame.......instead of a cantilevered load from the frame extending out......

this is the ideal setup......it does require drilling holes in the rocker ever 1-1.5"

the ones on my BII will be attached to the frame only because the BII does not have a rocker like the Ex....so Iwill be using the canitlevered load setup with U bolts atacheing th esliders to the frame in case I ever need to remove them........

cool. glad for the suport.
i know it is not a ndew idea but new for me,,,,ok?
reason for this setup is to monimize scrap metal purchase.
ok... so i will get 4 bumpoer hitch, 4 long straight receiver class 3 and but a slider.... that would be great. now..if it is only that easy. will keep u guys updated/

I dont think you need to get the hitches. You could just take square tube that has a slightly larger inside diamater in relation to the outside diamater of the tubing used for the sliders. Then you coudl just put the slider tubing inside the tubing that will be attached to the frame and drill a hole to connect a few bolts through, it should not cost much at all.

yah... we can do that too but i like the thickness of the hitches that u seea thte store. i am sure the same thickness from a scrap metal shop would cost more

If you buy hitches pre made and cut them up, it will cost you double then it would to make your own from scratch.

At least where I buy metal it would

I need a picture. I'm having trouble visualizing this.
