Hi everyone, I have a '98 Explorer XLT V6 4.0. My power steering is extremely tight and almost impossible to turn. A rubber hose under the power steering resevor tank come off of a thin "L" Shaped metal pipe and all the fluid drained out. I proceeded to fix this issue by cleaning down there and applying rtv silicon to the metal pipe, and then clamping the rubber hose back down onto the thin "L" shaped metal pipe. I let it dry for 48 hours and it holds fluid and will drive straight, but as soon as I turn more than 90 degrees, the hose blows off and all the fluid spills out. This has happened twice now and I'm not sure what to do next? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Nick

The pressure hose needs copper gaskets and to be torqued to specs. I would get new copper gaskets and see if that fixes your issue first, since your hose works with silicone.

you need to replace the pressure hose. you can't repair it. DONT drive w/out fluid in the pump or you'll sieze the bearing in the pump, break the shaft or belt lose the function of the water pump and alternator, overheat your engine. get's real expensive, real fast.
