I finally made up my mind. I selected A Flowmaster 70 Series.

I will be having my exhaust shop install ( weld ) it into my existing cat back system ( 2 1/2" )

I've come to the same conclusion. I may try running duals. I'd like to know how you like the set up.

Today I had my new Flowmaster 70 Series muffler installed.

The muffler has 2 ½ inch inlet/outlet; the outlets are centered.

The local exhaust shop welded it in place of the existing muffler in my 2 ½ inch cat back exhaust system.

They did a very nice job, much more involved than we thought at first do to the length of the Flowmaster 70 as compared to what I had in there.

The muffle is very quiet ( compared to what I had ), not much louder than stock, inside the truck when driving in town; you really only hear it inside during acceleration. I then took it out on the Interstate and drove about 40 miles; the inside noise at a 70 MPH cruise is mild. As it was in town driving, the sound is only noticeable during acceleration and even then, it’s not objectionable.

I have a trip to Atlanta next week; we shall see how the new muffler affects the gas mileage..

This is definitely what I have been looking for in a muffler for my Explorer.
