New muffler shopping time

Hmmm... Im looking into the 50 series SUV cat back too. If the 70 series are supposed to be quieter, then I may end up with one of those.

WE NEED SOUND FILES!!!

Remember that the larger the exhaust pipe the more noise in the cabin. I ran 2" duals and that keeps the cabin sound lower than a 3" single would be.

Ok its done, suv 50 series 2.25 single in 2.25 dual out. Its awesome!! I could definetly have it louder I hear nothing inside absoulutely the same as my stock. If I open the window and jump on the gas I can hear it but nothng crazy, just a nice low rumble. Looks great.

Power and torque loss or gain are not noticable It actually feels better but thats probably my head.

One thing though, I said to the mechanic so you removed the resonator right he says i didnt have one I phoned the dealer and they said I have one but they barley knew much about the muffler he said the stock just comes already built so...

can some one post a pic of what the resonator looks like or describe it and where its located so I can see if I have one on there and point it out to the guy.

thanks, oh and if the 70 series is quiter why bother.

It should be about a foot or 2 behind the muffler. Looks pretty much like another cat. Just like a bubble in the piping. I believe when the exit pipe starts going up over the rear axle, it should be in there. If you got duals and didn't use your stock piping behind the muffler you should be fine.

thats exactly what the mechanic said, he said come and look at your old pipe. So theres no way its before the muffler ? I thought it went cat some where near the manifold then resonator then muffler but then again this is my first time messing with an exhaust.

Thanks

J

Its after the miffler. Its rather small.

Please post some pics of your new exhaust.

I have narrowed the hunt to two:

Flowmaster 70
Flowmaster 50 Delta Flow

I have 2 1/2" custom pipe from the cat back.

Again, low inside cab noise at highway speed is my main requirement.

Opinions.....

Gibson, Gibson, Gibson, IMHO. Flowmaster is a mistake if you are looking for something more than a pretty sound.

And stay the hell away from Magnaflow, it was the most awful mistake I ever made on my truck.

Ill try and get apicture of mine tonight for you AL,

I continue to hear nothing inside my truck and my girlfriend didnt even notice.

SUV 50 series, which I think is the same as delta flow

Thanks. I am confused - you and others say no sound with the SUV, yet look at the charts from Flowmaster of the 50 SUV and the 50 Delta Flow.

Nope, SUV 50 series isn't available with Delta Flow.

Al, I think the chart pretty much nails it. Delta flow is supposed to quieten the cabin a bit.

I don't have any interior sounds files, but I did find X24's video clip on my computer. I'm actually out of town now, but if you're interested I can send it when I get back to my apartment on Sunday.

i'm looking for exhaust but i'm lost in this talk...from the looks of it i'm gonna wanna pick up a flowmaster...but what i'm concerned about is as the model #'s get higher ex. 40, 50, 70 (dunno if there's a 60) do they get better in quality or what? and i'm seeing that a lotta people with 4.0 SOHC's are using the 50 deltas is there a cheaper route or is that the cheapest?

P.s. sorry if u think i hijacked :mattmoon: ;)

Just different sounds. The 50 deltas are what come with the Force II kits and what Flowmaster recommends for SUV's. I had one and it wasn't loud enough, so I went with a 40, then a Super 40. I think 50 is one of the more expensive mufflers they have. My 40 series was around $20 cheaper than my 50.

I'm about to go with the super 40s myself. I really don't understand why the Delta (quieter) series cost so much more.

With my dual 40 delta flows at the moment, crusing in 4th gear isn't a prob at all. Not loud at all. I often pop it into 1st just to remind me of it sometimes. I'm selling me deltas soon and going with the supers or either regulars flows just to get that more aggressive tone.

al, i have some videos of my X with the 70 series on it with the stock 2" pipe with the resonator cut out. i can e-mail it to you if you want. b4 the resonator was cut out you couldnt really hear anything from the inside but since then u can hear some noise thought its not bad at all and there isnt any cruising noise on the hwy that i've noticed. since you have a 2.5" custom pipe already, yours will be a little louder on the out side than mine. also, i do set off some car alarms, lol the one that fit my X perfectly was with the dual inlet motor was the dual 2.25" inlet (fits perfectly) with a single 3" outlet which would need soem fab to connect to your 2.5" tailpipe. best of luck!

Ken,

I would be interested in checking out your video. You can email it to roastmonkey@comcast.net

Do you have the SOHC or the 5.0?

rob.

rob,

not a problem but i cannot e-mail them to you until after 5 becasuse i'm at work right now. also, how much space do u have in your e-mail inbow because i have three videos that total ~6-7MB or so. if u have plenty of space i'll send them all, if not i'll send them separately after u'dv downloaded them. btw, i have the 4.0 SOHC.
