Hey guys, I'm wantin to put a Flowmaster 40 on my Explorer since they're very reasonably priced ($60 from Summit) How hard is it to put one of these bad boys on? and which size inlet and outlet do I need for my '92, the plumbing for the exauhst is all stock and I'd like to keep it that way for now. I want that good Flowmaster sound outta my X.

i believe the inlet and outlet size is 2.25, i'm not sure at all though

pretty sure its 2". not too hard to do, but the new one wont be quite long enough, youll have to take a piece of 2" pipe, stick it in the flowmaster, clamp it, get some flex pipe, clamp it to the little piece sticking out of the flowmaster, clamp it and then clamp that to the tail pipe.

Question about going with stock 2"...thats what I have now, and am looking at the 50 series....is 2" ok, or should I go larger by getting a new system?

the stock 2" would be ok but I would (and will be soon :D ) go with a 2.25" pipe that is custom bent and installed by a shop. I got a quote from a local shop for a Flowmaster 50 single out, 2.25" pipe and an exhaust tip that would cost a total of $225. I am doing the 40 series delta so I will still have the rumble with minimal interior noise as i make a long commute 5 days a week.

Is that due to the sound that you'd increase Diameter, or overall perfomance? If I were to keep the stock 2" would it hamper perfomance, or sound or both? Should I go with the 40 to get the sound (nice rumble, but not too obnoxious)

2.25" would increase flow and give it a little more rumble. I have heard of some people using 2.5" but most say they wish they had gone with 2.25" cause they lost some low end torque. Deffinitely don't do anything bigger or torque will suffer. I have heard the 40 is louder than the 50 but still has a deep rumble to it, that is why i am getting it. If you want less interior noise/resonance than go with the Delta 40 like i am getting. If you don't care than you could go with the regular 40.

Oh ya, I am getting the delta 40 2.25" single in/dual out cause I want the look of dual exhaust but it should not hurt the torque from what i have heard from those that have it.

Hey snocross,et all. I just put a catback Flowmaster system on my 94 Sport. Came with a Flowmaster Delta series 50, 2" inlet, 2.25" outlet with 2.25" tailpipe/ hangers/2"inlet pipe. The noise level is perfect, nice deep growl without the interior noise. No noticable power gain but the accelleration improved as did the fuel mileage. Total cost to my door was $260($50 shipping). Highly recommend this kit

Oh yeah, the 40 series Flowmaster can be bought off ebay for around $30. They are cheap cause they are NOISY with a nasty interior resonance. Would not recommend using them...my $.02 worth

no way, i just bought 2 of them for $120 total on ebay. put them on a '77 vette...theyre loud to say the least :D
