1998 Explorer 4.0
Hallo all, as the title suggests, just got myself a nice 1999 explorer, which Ive been thinking of doing for years but just never taken "the leap" as it were.

Ive owned loads of different 4x4's over the years and what i love about the explorer is that it doesn't do one particular thing brilliantly, but does everything pretty well. Virtually every other 4x4 on the market has one thing they excel at, and then they are let down by a load of other aspects. The explorer isnt like that, so now i have found my keeper, as it were.

As for problems, which lets face it, most people have when getting a new motor, i haven't found many. I'm trying to locate a luggage compartment blind, which was missing, and im also missing the lower valance from the front bumper.

As for mechanical s, the engine seems sweet and pulls like a train, but i have noticed that the large pulley, near the top of the engine makes a racket, especially when starting from cold. Once warmed up it dies down a bit, but still annoying. Would greasing this help or replacing? Cant hear anything that could be described as tappet noise, but i do get a slight rubbing type of sound that comes from the front when moving off. Once moving it goes away. You can feel the vibration from it through the steering wheel.

Am pleased as punch with it and the fuel economy has surprised me as well. Will prob LPG it a few years down the road but before i had this i had a Pajero 2.5td auto and this it at least 3 times more powerful and uses no more in the way of fuel. Just a few bits to do and all is well. Any tips from anyone?
