Hello all. My name is Bob and I live in NC. My Sportrac has almost 200k miles and is starting to have a few issues. I have a puzzle with solving the 455 code, small leak in Evap system. I have tested for leaks, replaced the gas cap replaced the valve in the rear that is normally open but I think should close when running. I have plugged in a vacuum gauge and volt meter on the front valve in the engine compartment. It intermitantly received pulses from the PCM but will only have vacumm appear if I force the back valve closed. To get the back valve to stay closed as it should in the running mode I apply an independent voltage from a 12v power supply direct to the valve forcing it to close. I disconnected what comes form the vehicle so there is no feedback and in a few minutes this seems to allow a 1-2 lbs vacuum to build. Monitoring the leads from the vehicle to the back valve does not show any voltage or pulses being sent to close this valve? Therefor without the back valve closing no vacumm can build for the evap sustem to draw fumes to the intake. I have check for fuses and the only fuse that is not with voltage is dash board panel fuse no. 28 for Console and Audio? There is no input voltage to this fuse with everything in the on position. Any further ideas of what I need to troubleshoot?
