I've been researching this for about an hour now and I keep getting conflicting answers, do our trucks really need the ford/g05 gold coolant? Or is something like what I'm using (prestone universal green) okay? As far as I've read they are basically the exact same, neither them have silicates or anything like that in them, they are both ethylene glycol based so it shouldn't cause any clumping issues, and they both have corrosion inhibitors in them. right now I have probably about 80% prestone universal green coolant in my system, which even says it's compatible with ford gold, has anyone done this and noticed any problems? Or does it really not matter at all as long as they are basically the same other than the color? This is making my head hurt trying to figure this out lol. Also I am in the process of flushing any old gold coolant out so within a few days it will be all green coolant, im not doing a flush just because I don't have anything to put the extra coolant in that comes out. Running out of bottles, and I'm already at about 80%+ green like I said (or so I'm estimating based on how much I've put in from what I've stocked up) thanks! Sorry if it's annoying to keep seeing coolant questions.

As a side note, the only reason I initially used Prestone is because I didn't think about the coolant type when I bought it and I wasn't about to waste the money I had already spent on it since it was a concentrate and I had already mixed it 50/50

The Gold Coolant is recommended and that's what I use because when it comes to certain important liquids like coolant and ATF, always stick with OEM. With that said, I have seen MANY vehicles (including Fords) over the years switch to Prestone green with no problems.

Good to know! Thank you! And as far as any other fluid except engine oil I would definitely only use ford fluids.
