I have a 41 rear end which is open so instead of installing a locker would it be better to just put a new rear end in with a 373. I'm going to buy another rig probably a 80-85 Bronco II and do it up for my pleasures but I don't want a cheesy everyday ex either...what do you think???

Well if you regear the rear or replace it with that of a different ratio you also must do the front. This gets annoying and expensive. Really depends on what you want to do with your X

And you won't find a Bronco II between 80 and 83 as they didn't start to make them untill 1984, and don't quote me on this, but I believe they used the 7.5" rear end.

Bii from 84-90
all 7.5 rear EXCEPT some late 89's & 90's with a 8.8 (rare)

4.10 open is better then 3.73 for a daily driver, going to 3.73 is like working backwards, even with stock tires

the door code is 41 the ratio is 3:27 :thumbdwn: I will do a lot of research before I buy..thanks all

Why is that? I plan to go from a 3.27 to 3.73's. I dont think thats working backwards. I think 4.10's is too much for a daily driver with stock wheels.
just my 2 cents.

he thought I was going to 373 from 410's thus the 41 door code

yeah, going from a 4.10 to a 3.73 is like doing mods to loose power or to have lower RPMs at higher speeds (i.e. long track in NASCAR).

I'm running 3:27 now open and at 75 mph /120kph my rpm is under 2000

I know what you are trying to acheive. You are just going to have to try and find an L/S diff at an auto wrecker somewhere. Just bolt your ring gear onto an L/S diff and shim it up. You will still have 327 gears but at least you will have L/S in the back. With 4 low and factory size tires, give or take, 327 are fine unless you are rock crawling.

My bad fella's. I thought wrong.
