Hello, my name is Chad... I wanted to introduce myself and get some 'veteran' owners opinion of the Explorer.
I currently own a 2015 Jeep Cherokee, unfortunately it has been a nightmare to own. First let me give you a back story. Previous to my Jeep I owned a 2011 Chevy Camaro - I loved the car however I did not love the 2nd gear grind problem and numerous transmission fixes that soured the experience of the car. With that said, I finally traded it in in October 2014 on the Jeep.
It appears I traded transmission issues for transmission issues. Now, the ZF 9 Speed software controlled transmission is a night mare. I have already had it replaced once because of 1) Clunky performance 2) confused shifting 3) RPM spikes of 1000 RPMS while downshifting. This occurred between 35 to 22 MPH between 5th to 4th gear, while breaking it was as if I was hitting the gas wihle breaking.. 4) Intermittent failure to engage out of park (reverse or forward) and 2nd gear jerk ... The dealership had the car 25 days in shop waiting on a new tranny at 1500 miles. I am at 2400 and appears I will need another one. If this is the case, they will hold the car for more then 5 days at which Ohio lemon law allows me to start the Lemon Law process (30 cumulative days).
Please understand I am worried about transmissions so I ask for fair and accurate information here. Does the 2015 Explorer (specifically) 2WD XLT have any issues with the transmission? I took a test drive on a 15 XLT yesterday and loved it. The smooth transmission, the power and accessories, comfort etc. I am sold on the vehicle and will pursue once I get my last purchase completely un-done.
Any information both good and bad will be very helpful, I do understand that issues happen and are not a broader issue but sometimes individual experiences.
I appreciate any information and personal experiences that I can get.
