Thinking of getting a 02 XLT

i have a 99 blazer, thinking of trading it in on a 02 explorer XLT, with V6 im thinking, dont know yet, how much worse is V8 on the gas mileage, although i shouldnt be worried about gas mileage since i will be putting 300+pounds extra in the back from audio and batteries and what not

are there anythings i should look out for, i know a guy that had some trouble with his explorer one time, it was a 02 or 03 model dont remember the exact problem

alot of them im looking at i see have 3rd row seats, is this standard or what? im going to be folding them or taking them out whihc ever is does

im hoping to keep the mileage around 80-90k if i can, hoping for less

Take it out on the highway before you buy. At around 60-65 mph, listen for a whine coming from the rear end. Take your foot off the gas and see if there is a change in the sound. If you hear a whine when giving it gas and it goes away when you let off it, then you have a differential problem.

i think thats the problem my friend had, how many does this happen to, most of them? not very many?

If an '02 doesn't have the whine, then it's most likely been repaired. I think most all of them had this problem. Several on this board have said they had theirs repaired and the whine came back later.

The v-6 has been a good engine for me and has plenty of power.

Mine has about 85,000 miles on it now and the only problem has been the rear end. I bought a brand new one off ebay and had the dealer install it a few days ago. I have a good used one with a "slight" whine that I will sell cheap.

also i posted in the audio section, but i was wondering if anyone had the demensions for the rear cargo area:
between the wheel wells
from wall to wall
from floor to top of back seat and from back seat to hatch

if anyone has this info i would be vetty happy

and a few more questions
main differences between XLS and XLT?
does XLS have auto lights or does XLT?
i dont have to have leather but i prefer it
do they have A/c in the headliner? or is this just EXPI's?
power driver seats?
remote unlocker?

and does the 03 have the differntial issue?
