Hello All, just bought my wife a 99 Explorer 101k great shape, just need a few tips, one are there any after market rims for the truck? also for the 15" rims what is a good all around tire that is a little wider than stock, im a Tbird guy and this is the first truck that i bought so a lot of new stuff here, i just did a seafoam treatment on the upper intake and the gas tank to get her running smooth, anything i should look out for on the 4.0 SOHC? Thanks in advance!

Also the Tac doesnt work tht well, it jumps around, is there a connection or a sensor that can be cleaned? or do i need to get a new tac? and the temp/direction isnt working, is there a fuse for that as well? or if that goes is that it? thanks!

no need to be like that, im no noob when it comes to forums i have been on tccoa since 01'. Its easy for people who dont have an answer to just say use the search, but thats not what forums are about, its about helping others with their issues on their cars or trucks, and sorry but that wasnt helpin out, the search is great, but when you need specifics nothing is better than asking and getting answers.

Well we can be nicer here than tccoa if we try :). I think there are a few people who post on both boards. Some issues could be noise on startup in the SOHC, which means you have to fix the tensioners. The other issue is ball joints, the ex has similar problems like the tbird, check them out.

I think the tac is driven by the computer, an instrument cluster is cheap on ebay.

What do you mean temp/direction? directionals? could that be the multifunction switch?

:) thanks man, im on both now with my wifes truck and my bird, its the over head display, where the sunroof is, on my dads 99 it shows the demp and direction, but on this one the display isnt there, but when i press and hold the mode button, nothing happens, no display, i tried to look in the manual to see if there was a fuse setting for it, but i dont see one in the book, as for the ball joints and start up, for a truck with 101k it rides and sounds good, the only noise i have is the heat sheild rattle from the cat.

Are you sure it's the heatshield? Or did the cats guts finally begin to collapse?
a friend of mine bought a Jeep and the seller told him the heatshield was loose, when we checked it out it was actually the cat. Not saying that's whats wrong with your ride but something to consider.

yes, its the same noise my 95 bird (have a 97 now w/v6) made before i had the exhaust ripped out and put in a custom hi flow system, thats why i wasnt hesitant when i heard it, i will keep my eye on it tho, thanks :)

the wiring diagram indicates there is a 7.5 amp fuse (#10) that powers the overhead console. Check that, then Check the GY/YE wire in the harness, see if it has B+.

Tbird,

The Tire & wheel forum will answer all your tire questions. There are a lot of choices for wheels. I'm on TCCoA as well but different user name there.

I wasn't being hateful, it's the truth. This forum is innundated with "stickies" that have answers to your questions in the 1st paragraph of your original post. And as far as your tach problem, if you searched and then still had questions, that's a different story.

but reading stickies doesnt help create friendships with people on here, i can surf the net and read if i want to get info, i want to interact with people, and from everything i have gotten in here, so far all my Q's have been answered, i understand what your saying, but dont be one of those guys that tells the new guy to fend for himself,

Dan whats your name on TCCOA mines the same on there as here. :)
