new to my 1993 XL Limited

I just aquired this 1993 Xl Limited and it handles and rides great. But regretfully I cannot find any documentation that will give me all I need to know about the car. I purchased the hayes manual but no really specific enough. It has an features I am not sure what they are for or need documentation for. If anyone can recomend where to get the specifications for the truck, would be much abligided. But I would like to have it as specific as Speaker sizes, features included with that model etc. Thanks in advance

Well you either have an XL or limited. Limited is the top end model where as XL is the basic model... that'd be the first part to figure out.

I said the same thing, the back of the truck says Explorer XL, but the side says limited. Everything seems stock, and has the luxury package sunroof, jbl sound system including subwoofer and amp. Few other immenities I thought only come with the limited. Is there a way to tell by the VIN

Here's a couple more things to look or;
Front air dam
Plastic body molding w/ monochromatic insert
Painted bumpers that match the color scheme
Auxillary tranny cooler
Tow package wiring harness under back bumper
Electric seats both sides
Remote keeyless entry (Look behind the panel covering the rear wiper res)
Running boards
Check the axel codes on the door sticker
Alloy, (how do I describe them) diamond, cross, wire like wheels with Limited caps.

I don't remember if Ford can or will tell you what your rig came with from the factory if you give them the VIN but it might be worth a try.

They did for my BII a couple of years back. The dealers likely don't have that information in their computers, but they told me to call Ford headquarters and they looked it up. And got it mostly right (except for the engine, not sure how they goofed that up).

I have my dad looking at it with your suggestions. Its parked in his yard waiting for insurance in Jersey

But I do know it has electronics on both seat, do not know about keyless entry but may explain that anti theft light. We will see. But thanks for the help, any other suggestion definately welcome

Key FOB

Yup, sounds like a Limited!

Ford charges $50 for a new key FOB but you can get one off EBay for a lot less.

It's a three button FOB
FCC: GQ43VT4T
DOC: 1470 K763
TRW Inc 3165189

Use a paper clip to short the plug behind the drivers rear panel (by the rear washer res) to program the computer to recognize your new FOB. I think it will store 3 FOB codes, when you put in a fourth, the first one will be deleted.

Well confirmed it has limited on the seats. Strange that even the bill of sale has 1993 Ford explorer limited XL. Well now still need to find specs on the truck and all information possible.

I have a limited and there isnt anything major that u will need to know that is different about the mechanics of a limted compared to a reg. explorer with a tow package and such...of course the obvious stuff like the fog lights, rear view mirror, heated outside mirrors, ect...there will be more fuses which the limited owners manual will let u know where they all are

btw if u plan on getting a aftermarket cd player put in make sure u get the harness that is for the explorer with the premium audio system b/c there are 2 different harnesses for the explorers

^ yup the wiring harness plug for the speakers is different on the premium sound then the regular

I wonder if the rear hatch was replaced at some point by one off of an XL? The Explorer and XL emblems are two peices on that year aren't they?
