Just bought my first "explorer" in November. Got a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer 5.0l AWD for 800 bucks from my sister in law.
It had been wrecked, hit pretty hard in the right front end. Need all new grill, bumper, fender ,hood and suspension work on that side. Has parked for about 4 years.
It started life as a an AWD. By the time she got it the front diff and half shafts had been removed. She never knew that it was an AWD. It's in really good shape. Has 160,000 miles 5.0l all per with all bells and whistles. I figured it would would make a good project.
I like fast and different things so thought what the heck good price good bones. Since I got it I put a Ford grill and headlight set up with billet inserts and LED lights. Dropped it 2in in rear 3in in front and removed moldings and luggage rack. Cold air intake and 40 series flowmaster 2in and 2out muffler.
Now looking forward to building this thing on a budget.
Anyone who has any opinions on how to advice or any suggestions are welcome.
If I could get info on places to buy performance parts and knowledge on best recommended are welcome.
Look forward to learning from everyone. And hope I wrote this in the right place. If not I'm sure I'll be told

Welcome to the forum.

The Explorer or Mountaineer is a unique beast. Some of the summit and Jegs stuff will work, if you make it so.

Thanks bro. I'll definitely give it a try. You a are 100 percent right when you day that they are unique beasts. Wanted to build one of these because you don't see alot of them really done nice in any one location. Being city or state. I don't think I quite realized what I was in for. Im beginning to realize why nice custom ones are so rare. Guessing I will have a nice unicorn when I'm done. Anyone out there reading my posts please feel free to give me any and all info they have. Looking forward to hearing from everyone
