hello everybody.im a proud owner of a 93 xlt.my first suv and i love it.my question is about excelleration.it takes off well from a stop but when i go up to 55mph and try to give it gas for more speed i get nothing.its like i have to really floor it to get something.i bought it with 78 thousand miles and change the oil and put injection cleaner.i still have to put a tune-up.also my 4x4 bottuns dont work.im nervous that im driving on 4-wheel drive.is there a way for me to know?its an automatic.before i forget i have one more question about suspension.is the 93 suppose to be reall bouncy?i can make the truck bounce with one hand.i thankyou all in advance.

Welcome, I'm sure you can almost anything you want to know about your truck here.

1. Not sure about hesitationa at 55. Maybe the trans is just not shifting out of OD. My GF's ranger is kinda like that, you really gotta floor it to get it to kickdown. Plugs, wires, and air cleaner may help. If you bought it used, you don't now when the last time they where ever changed.

2. 4x4. Should have 2 buttons, 4x4 and LOW RANGE. The lights should be lit when engaged. Also if engaged, you will get drivetrain bind up when turning. If it won't engage, it may be the switch, or the shifter motor. You can find info Dead Link Removed under Transfer Case.

3. Bouncy. Sounds like you need new shocks.

Welcome to the site. My '93 does the same at highway speeds. It is due to the fact it doesn't kick out of overdrive until you really hit the accelerator. I don't know if you use yours for heavy offroading or not, if you don't, I've found that Monroe shocks work really well on our exploders. Mine was bouncy when I bought it and it also dove a lot under braking, to the point of becoming scary. The new shocks fixed both problems and have been working well since then.

1. Mine does the same when in over drive. At highway speeds I have to floor it to get her to down shift.

2. The 4x4 problem is tough. Need some more info. One easy way to check if you locked in 4x4 mode is to get in the dirt or gravel and punch it. If only your rear tire spins your ok. If front and back spin then your locked in 4x4.

3. Yes sounds like new shocks. Rancho 9000s are nice because you can adust them to your driving needs (stiff when driving a curvy road or soft when driving over a rough wash board terrain.

i use mine for normal driving.i will try to go on a dirt road to see if its on 4x4.also my abs light is on at all times.any advice on that?im a newbie to 4x4's and i can use all the help i can get.once again thanks.

I strongly recommend gettin a Haynes or Chiltons book on your truck. It is pricesless. It will give a reference on where and what things are.

ABS light. Start easy check fluid level. Next could be the sensors on the brakes. When was the last break job?

If those don't work let us know. There are some really smart and knowledgable people on this site. Also try using the search function to find info your looking for. There is a ton of info here!

I have done almost all the work needed on my X and I consider myself to be pretty technically inclined and never thought that could be the reason my ABS light was always on...and then you come on here and put this brilliant idea up and its my problem. Thanks for saving my life haha, I only had about a 1/2 inch of it in there. Leave it to me to think the worst and never think about checking the simple things first.
