Hello, I'm considering purchasing a 2005 Explorer, V8, XLT, 4X4, 210K miles. Image attached. It's been well maintained, very clean, everything works. California vehicle so no rust. Here's my question: From what I've read, Explorers with this mileage are notorious for having transmission issues. There hasn't been any transmission work on this vehicle and at this point shifts fine. Should I give this vehicle serious consideration or too risky? I'd probably drive it about 2,000 miles/yr. Price is under $3K. Thanks

I have an 03 Centennial edition, 4.6 V8 AWD with 198000, no trans problems as yet.

Good to know. Thank you

Looks like a decent rig
Trans could last 5000 miles or 50000 you just never know.. but in this price range it is what it is. The 4.6 is a decent engine and these are
Pretty tough trucks especially when you change your oil often and keep up with maintenance

Anything can have transmission problems after 200K mi, priced under $3K leaves less spent on it and put some money aside for the eventual repairs it will need. You'd face same situation with any sub-$3K market value SUV.

Makes sense - thanks!
