I recently posted a thread called http://www.explorerforum.com/forums...-problems-any-help-would-be-a-godsend.464194/ where I was having a strange intermittent problem with my transmission shifting hard with a clunking sound and the engine sounding like it was revving up during the troubled times. Well instead of doing the smart thing and taking it to a shop i decided it had to be the transmission so went out and bought a rebuilt one from Autozone. Well after installing the transmission, guess what? That's right! Problems still there. I took it to a transmission shop today and he put a scanner on it and drove it but it never acted up one time.He could find no codes what so ever. After disconnecting the scanner he drove it one more time and lo and behold the the problem was there. He drove it for several minutes and said there was no doubt that something was messing with the shifting and not an engine misfire. He said he had no idea what it could be other than a sensor somewhere or the PCM. So there we have it. $2000.00in the the hole and still no cure. I'm looking for ideas. I did think of something today that peaked my interest. A couple of days ago I passed one of the little radar trailers that law enforcement sets up so you can monitor your speed. Usually my speedometer matches up pretty close to theirs but this time I was 10 mph slower than them. I'm just grasping at straws I guess but I'm out of ideas and don't know where to begin replacing sensors. Anybody?

I've been reading some of the threads on here looking for answers and came across the tire size issues people are having with tires that aren't wore evenly or not matching tires. I have a tire on the back driverside that is practically brand new with the other three tires being almost ready for replacement as far as wear. The shifting issues started around the same time as the new tire being put on. Could this be the problem?

Get a atsg manual for your transmission it has a trouble shooting section you might even be able to download it for free there are a number of sensors that the pcm uses to control the shift scheduLing a Haynes manual will have instructions on how to test these sensors usually with nothing more than a multi meter I would start with the speed sensor since you already know that is a , likely culprit also could end up being the pcm Iv had problems that even the Ford dealer couldn't figure out ended up taking it to a mustang shop and they replaced the pcm and a pig tail on one of my sensors and problem solved how they figured it out still impresses me to this day. And Iv also had transmission issue that reoccured after a complete rebuild reset the pcm and it went away instantley so pcm s can definitely go bad but I would start with the manuals replace the speed sensor and test other transmission related sensors and go from there
