Greetings!!

I got a '92 Explorer this weekend (Eddie Bauer model), and it's raised a few questions...

-The 4wd won't engage. After the dealer tells me they won't fix it (stupid as-is forms...) and beore I try taking the transfer case motor apart, I want to check the fuses. Since it didn't come with an owners manual, can anyone tell me which fuse controls the TC motor?

-For those of you who have had this problem, did the indicator lights come on at all? Were there any noises associated with pusing the buttons? (mine has neither...)

-As you are sitting in the drivers seat, just to the left of the hood latch under the steering wheel, is a small switch. Is this a fuel cutoff switch, or a mystery bonus after market switch?

-Does anyone know where to get an owners manual?

I think this is it for now (unless someone has a cheap tan tonaeu (sp?) cover for the back...) - Thanks in advance for your help!!

well i can answer your manual question as i was not given a manual with my explorer. If you want the manual that comes with the car then become a member at www.ownerconnection.com It is a helpful site that has a section called glovebox. In that section they have the manual that came with the car in .pdf format. Hope that helps

Thanks for the response. After registering, I found out the site doesn't offer any glovebox options to vehicles older than '96. They also don't have the service section up for a '92 Explorer... I am relegated to ebay?

Try www.helminc.com. They carry the Ford owner's manuals. When my blue booklet and all of its contents were stolen a couple of years ago, I got a complete replacement for about $37. It included the blue binder, owner's manual, 4x4 supplement, audio supplement, service guide, warranty information booklet and quick reference guide exactly like the original one that came with my Explorer.

Welcome to the site Jonny. If you haven't found it yet, check out this site Dead Link Removed

You will find lots of maintenance tips for your older Ex and how to troubleshoot the 4WD system. Bookmark it, cause you may be using it alot!

That's the mystery bonus aftermarket switch :)

As or a manual, I still have the one out of my '92, including the carrying case, sound system guide, and spare wallet keys (not cut). I'll sell it for $15 + shipping. Send me an e-mail if you are interested.

THANKS!!

Thanks to all who posted in reply. My 4X4 problem was a lot more benign (thankfully)....

As I was investigating a radio problem, I pulled of the cover. Whoever reinstalled the factory radio had forgotten to plug up the switch! Voila'!! I now can flip my rig in the snow like the best of them 8) Those of you who live in CO may know what I'm talking about!!

Anyway, thanks to all!
