hello all. I've just purchased my 2nd explorer and my wife owns a 2003 mountaineer.
I'm in to drag racing and will be building a bracket racer out of my second explorer.

302 EFI from a mustang, GT 40 heads, 4:10 gear min. , C-4 trans with reverse manual valve body, stall convertor to name a few. Picking up the X in the morning.
I'll try and put a few pics up here tomorrow night....
I have to lighten this thing....to around 3000 to 3200 lbs....if possible.

Any pics of the other explorer? 3200 lbs. would be quite a feat to do in the explorer. That's going from a brick to a mustang weight...

Welcome. Just wondering, why do you need so much weight removed for bracket racing? I remeber years ago there was an old Oldsmobile station wagon called the "Lead Sled". Sure it was heavy but it ran so consistant. It allwaysed came of the line so clean everytime. Not fish tailing, on again off again wheel stands like a lot of other cars. Is the main reason driveline reliability due to lighter launch weight?

thanks guys, yea the main thing is keeping the weight down for reliability issues, plus the fact that I dont plan on getting smoked by to many blazers. I think the curb weight is 4163.lbs...if I read it correctly. I won't be just cutting it up. I'll remove what I can without the "smoke wrench"....by removing all the Ac/heater stuff, the front sway bar, all the rear seats, most of the wiring etc etc. This particular vehicle is a katrina flood vehicle, so its not like I'm ruining a good X. More like saving one....
I'll put pics up tonight if I have time. And you can follow along on the build at http://www.geocities.com/xtremben/explorer.html
thanks

From an old burnt out drag racer myself, cut a good light and put that other guys wailer back on the trailer. Cut the livin sh#t out of it and post pics.
