Newbie needs some help with changing a synchronizer

Hey all, I was wondering if anybody could post some directions for replacing a camshaft synchronizer on a '99 Explorer pushrod V-6? I took it to the dealer and they wanted $500 dollars to replace it.

I'd really appreciate any help I could get
