Me and my dad just put on my KKM filter today and of course he didn't want to do exactly as it said so instead of drilling a hole and using the brackets, we used some of those plastic ties and tied the thing down. Luckily it's working just fine.
1. Well, you guys were saying that it gives a lot better sound. Do you guys hear when you just turn on the engine or what? I have to get going PRETTY fast to hear mine.
2. Can I break this thing in? Once I drive with it for a while will it sound even better?
3. Also, I haven't noticed that much of a drving change either. Will I notice it over time?
4. Was I supposed to plug both of my hoses that were in my factory air box?

You hear it the most when giving it lots of gas... You don't feel a huge difference, because you didn't gain alot from it.

What? Why did I buy this thing then hehe? Everyone was telling me that I would really benefit from it. Man....

You do, or at least I did and many, many othersdid, get performance gains.

You should pick up 1-2 MPG in fiel economy and some HP.

There is NO break in period.

Good luck and enjoy....

You noticed no increase in sound? That's strange, with my custom intake my engine is considerably louder than stock.

No, I got better sound but it's only when I'm really revving the engine, like at 50mph and up.

I'm just used to hearing my friend's Honda after he put an intake on. His sounds like a monster compared to mine.

Put a 66mm TB on there, you will get a ton of noise out of it, I rev mine to 6K under load and it sounds pretty mean.

From my exp the KKM made my engine feel more rev happy, on the downside it does pull more hot air than the stock setup (as measured from the intake air temp sensor) but there are ways to built a cold air intake with it however these will cut down on the noise.

I had to do the ziptie thing too, along with moving a bunch of stuff to make it fit, just make sure that the intake air tube doesn't touch the alternator pulley.

You only have to plug the vacuum line that runs over from the intake manifold, it should be the sitff one, just trace it out.

What is a TB? I'm dumb.

ALso, what do I do with the other hose? THere were 2 of them connected?

TB = Throttle Body, the thing on the other end of the intake tube attached to the upper intake manifold, also what the happy pedal (gas pedal) controls. I forget what the stock size is but I think that the 66mm TB is a little too much for the 4.0 under normally aspirated / stock condidtions.

Just tie the other hose out of the way.

Tim

I went ahead and plugged the other hose also. Should I go ahead and unplug it and just put it somewhere or what?
I'm not sure I'm idling the same as I used to either. That would probably be due to the vaccum hose huh?

If you plugged both hoses then leave both of them plugged it won't do any harm.

It should idle just the same as it did before, I know some would recommend reseting the EEC by pulling the battery cables for a little while.

Ok I just read what explorer4x4 had to say about the installation. THey said just to leave the other one unplugged or take it out. Sorry for taking up so much of your time on a little punk like me. I appreciate it though. THanks TIm and everyone else.

I'm just trying to pad my way to 200 posts. Hopefully I've been of some help along the way. Unplugged, take it out or plug it...it really doesn't matter.

Tim

Haha that's cool. You did help out a lot. I'm on my way to just 100. So bumpity bump this thread goes.

The padding thing was more of a joke than anything else, I think most of my posts have either been for parts or to try and help some out with a problem. But hey enough of my BS on to 199, and more KKM stuff.

Tim

I'd reset your computer. In case you don't know how to do this:

Unplug the neg. battery cable and leave it off for 15 mins.
Reconnect it
Idle the truck with ALL accessories off for about 10 mins.
Take the truck out and run it a bit hard for a few miles.

It will take a few days for the truck to totally get used to the KKM, but you should feel more of a difference after the reset.

OK, how about this? How much will a new throttle body run me?

I think they have 63 and 66mm versions, I would go with the 63 cause from exp the 66 can be a little bit much on a stock engine and even more so if you have low gears. But like Alec said, open up the exhuast first.

Anyway 201 posts, off to bed, sobriety and work, only another 35 years and counting till retirement.

Cool, I left the cable off for a few minutes today. I'll leave it off for 15 minutes tomorrow and plug it back up. Drive it with no radio, no AC, nothing right?
