Ok, after seeing all the fun that I missed out on today, I thought I would throw this up to see if I can't get any interest rolling for another run soon. I'm itching to get out in the dirt and have fun, but was unfortunate to not feel well enough to get out of bed this morning. So lets here it, whos up for another run soon? Tell me what dates work for you.

Dan

Wharton State Forest:

Atsion Ranger Station
Rte 206 & Atsion Rd
Vincentown, NJ 08088

Let's do it here! ;);) Say, early March?

Oh I am definitely in!!! I need to get some mud on these tires.

Dan

I'm going skiing at hunter mtn the first weekend in March... maybe the second weekend?

(i love the place they went this past weekend, that we now call site-x, but i dont know what the deal is with those tickets so id think twice about bringing a group there again.... so i'll go wherever you guys want. lol it wont be on me)

Yea, that was Site-X today. I'd be down with another run early March. I have spring break sometime around then. We can look up legal places that the ranger mentioned. I really, really need a snorkel though, that was WAY too close to a hydrolock today for my tastes.

ill most likely be goin on this run to,just gotta watch and figure out my schedule as time gets closer

what other places did the ranger mention?

i really don't like wharton- it's boring. there's a few mud holes and a lot of flat trail riding. NOTHING like the off-camber stuff at site-x. But if that's the only place to go, then so-be-it..... lets bring plenty of tow straps ;)

this is the spot the ranger was talkin about and if u scroll down you can see a little layout of the park and where the trucks and atv's

oooh chatsworth... :thumbdwn: lets go to wharton! Don't waste your money there.

sounds like he's doing someone a favor... i'd rather pay the $75 ticket and wheel site-x than the $50 entrance fee for chatsworth. That place is meant for quads and dirtbikes, not 4x4 trucks

$75 wasn't much more than what Rausch Creek cost for a day, and I think I would have way more fun in the mud. When do you guys have to pay those tickets off by?

Dan

I don't even know. I'm mailing my check tomorrow before I head back to school.

I'm down to go for a Piney run. I'm still throwing Forked River on the table though as a possibly awesome spot.

Not after our tickets today, sorry dude. It better be certified legal for me to hit it. I've got $200 in my bank account, and a $75 fine to pay.

Wow I must have let the Giants get to my head to read past the fact that you guys got tickets. Thats terrible man.

Yea, that trip changed my perspective too. Certified is not synonymous with "talking to Rangers" anymore. Kind of makes me question Wharton also.... does it make a difference as to which ranger is on duty? A B/S ticket like "going off trail" should be for people running over wildlife and brush off trail, not playing in sand.... i still swear that guy had another agenda or something, I mean c'mon- that's what "warnings" are for

I feel really bad guys. Im sorry, still wish i was there so I could've talked to the guy :(

I'm good for another Barrens run. :D:thumbsup:

Oh, and since most of you guys saw my truck would an AAL kit or 2 fix my rear springs? I forgot to ask yesterday.

EDIT: Sk1er you can. His (the ranger) name is Tenneran or something like that he was with Jersey Conservation - Game and Wildlife. Call them up if you want.

Honestly man, don't worry about it. It's not your fault, and besides, it's like we just had to pay a Rausch Creek-type entrance fee for a day of wild wheeling. It doesn't go on any of our records, and it's only $75, which in the grand scheme of things isn't a big deal, considering it could have been a $250 fine or something.

Ditto on the warning. I was very surprised, since we were all very nice too him, had no alcohol, and were a mere 200ft away from his "trail."

I'm no expert on legality of trails, but if you go to Google Maps, a lot of the dirt trails through Wharton are on there, with road names...
