Put some clear, cause if you dont they will get lighter with time, brake lights are not the problem reverse light is the big problem, you wont see anything with it.
I have this in my old car and those where the problems i had.

That looks cool and I would like to do mine now that my bumpers are black but I think I would feel the same way you do. I am not willing to give up utility for the look.

If they can't see that then they need to pay attention to their driving. Mine are now tinted and show up nicely during the day but are black with the lights off.
Looks OK at night but during the day the brakes are very hard to see ( tested this myself)
That pic is decieving.
And the headlights barely put out any light on the road!
A buddy of mine had a Pontiac Grand Prix several years ago with dark headlight covers on it. I rode with him at night one time and it was sad how little light he had to drive by. Looking cool is not worth the frustration that would cause.
